Salary 105k - 135k DOE
Summary/Objective
Candidates are responsible for several aspects of mechatronics engineering for custom and next-generation actuator designs, including the gear system, motor and sensor design/specifications, and verification of actuator performance using a variety of amplifiers, controllers, and test equipment. Proficiency in CAD design and detailing using SolidWorks is required. This role requires a hands-on contributor to product development.

Essential Functions

  • Electro-mechanical design, development, and documentation including manufacturing and customer drawings for systems of varied complexity from concept through production.
  • Design integration of industrial electro-mechanical system components including actuators, motors, gears, bearings, sensors, connectors, servo drives, and controllers.
  • Develop products and components for complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Perform analysis, troubleshooting, and testing at both component and system levels for products in development and production.
  • Create test and assembly procedures and reports to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with purchasing and manufacturing to source vendors and create bills of materials in the ERP system and assembly drawings.
  • Communicate clearly (written and verbal) with sales, customers, and vendors.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively alongside daily engineering tasks.
  • Follow and recommend improvements to development processes and procedures.
  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to project management.
  • Mentor and train fellow engineers.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and analyses.

Competencies
  • Intermediate electrical and mechanical experience in a manufacturing environment, including electro-mechanical system integration.
  • Strong electromechanical design creativity and practical problem-solving skills with a focus on manufacturability and cost.
  • SolidWorks proficiency with understanding of GD&T, manufacturing, and inspection capabilities.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation control practices.
  • Experience with electrical test equipment (multimeters, power meters, oscilloscopes) is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical/electrical assembly (soldering, crimping) is a plus.
  • Ability to generate accurate reports to communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, ERP systems, etc.).
  • Programming skills (Python or LabVIEW) and servo drive commissioning experience are a plus.
  • Experience with servo drives (Copley Controls, Elmo, Mitsubishi, Yaskawa, B&R, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Bosch Rexroth, Panasonic) is a plus.
  • Networking experience (EtherCAT®, CANopen®) is a plus.
  • Ability to develop PCBAs is a plus.
  • Experience with automated machinery and robotics is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
This role operates in a professional office environment and includes use of standard office equipment as well as electrical and environmental test equipment in a laboratory setting.

Physical Demands
  • Regular communication (verbal and written).
  • Frequent movement throughout office and shop areas.
  • Use of computer and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel
Infrequent domestic or international travel may be required.

Required Education and Experience
  • BS in Engineering required; MS preferred.
  • 4–8 years of experience in industrial product design and development.
  • SolidWorks certification is a plus.
  • GD&T certification is a plus.
